Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College baseball and softball teams has been picked to finish third in the Commonwealth Conference preseason coaches' poll.

The baseball team earned 44 points and captured one first-place vote in the selection process. Defending conference champion Messiah was picked for the top spot in the poll, with Elizabethtown receiving 54 points in second place.

The Eagle softball squad captured 45 points in the poll as they were picked for the third spot behind defending conference champion Moravian and Messiah. Moravian grabbed all eight first-place votes.

The Eagle baseball team finished with a 21-16 record in 2003, and just missed the postseason with an 11-10 conference record. The Eagles return nearly their entire lineup and pitching staff in 2004 and are looking to earn their first postseason appearance since the 2001 season.

Juniata?s softball program is coming off one of the best seasons in the program?s history in 2003. Juniata finished with a 19-11 record and earned a spot in the Commonwealth Conference postseason. The Eagles lost only one player from last year?s team to graduation.

Both the baseball and softball teams have begun their seasons as the baseball team is currently competing in a tournament in Clearwater, Fl., while the softball squad is battling in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
