HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- U.S. Representative Glenn Thompson, whose Fifth District includes Juniata College, will speak at the college on "The Future of Your Education" at 7:30 p.m., Monday, April 29, in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata campus.

The talk is free and open to the public. Thompson's visit is sponsored by the Juniata College Republicans and the Department of Politics.

Thompson recently hosted a contingent of Juniata College students who were in Washington, D.C. for The Washington Center's 2013 Inauguration Seminar in January, and also met another group of students who were participating in a Juniata politics course centered on the two national 2012 political conventions.

"Congressman Thompson is a knowledgeable and pragmatic representative with real-world experience and we are lucky to have him representing Juniata College in Congress," says Gregory Logue, president of the student club Juniata College Republicans.

Thompson was first elected to Congress in 2008 and represents the geographically largest district in Pennsylvania. He was re-elected to his third term in 2012. He is a member of the House Agriculture, Natural Resources and Education and Workforce committees. He serves as chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Conservation, Energy and Forestry.

Thompson also was named co-chairman for the newly formed bipartisan Congressional Natural Gas Caucus.

Before entering politics, Thompson was an administrator and executive in the healthcare industry. He spent 28 years as a therapist, rehabilitation manager and nursing home administrator in Centre County.

Thompson earned a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State University and went on to earn a master's degree in education from Temple University.
