HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College students will get a chance to publicly demonstrate their knowledge -- and get a day off from classes-- when more than 180 students present their research projects, on Thursday, April 18 at classroom sites across campus.

The Juniata Liberal Arts Symposium, first staged in 2006, asks students from almost all academic disciplines to present their research projects. Oral and poster presentations will run from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., Thursday, April 18 in buildings across the campus, including Brumbaugh Academic Center, the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts, Founders Hall and the von Liebig Center for Science.

The Juniata Liberal Arts Symposium asks students to present their research projects. Oral and poster presentations will run from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., Thursday, April 18 in buildings across the campus, including Brumbaugh Academic Center, the Halbritter Center for the Performing Arts, Founders Hall and the von Liebig Center for Science.

Regular classes will be cancelled for the day, allowing classrooms to be available for presentations.

There will be oral presentations throughout the day in Founders Hall, Brumbaugh Academic Center and Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science. Students will display posters in Sill Boardroom, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the science center and in Beeghly Library from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

There will be several performance events, including:

--At noon, the Juniata College Jazz Ensemble will perform at Detwiler Plaza (in front of the quad entrance for the Kennedy Sports and Recreation Center). In addition, the college's Saxophone Quartet and Clarinet Choir also will perform.

--At 1:30 p.m., in Detwiler Plaza, the Juniata communications department will hold an hourlong Storytelling session. The students participating are from the college's Storytelling course.
--At 3 p.m., also in Detwiler Plaza, international students from Panama, Mexico, China, Burma, Ukraine, the United States, Russia, Pakistan and Afghanistan will share stories by performing dances, telling a story or performing a song during the Multicultural Storyfest.

--At 4 p.m., in Rosenberger Auditorium, a group of Juniata music students will share solo performances at the Juniata Honors Recital.

--Also at 4 p.m., Evan Summer, professor of art at Kutztown University, will give a lecture on "Landscapes, Nocturnes and Pigs" in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science, followed by a 5 p.m. reception for Summer's exhibit, "Unknown Landscapes" at the Juniata College Museum of Art

Student art will be exhibited in the lobby of the von Liebig center throughout the day. Art students also will demonstrate techniques throughout the day.
