HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Catholic University scored three times in the second half to break open a neck-and-neck contest on its way to a 4-1 win over Juniata College, in Landmark Conference field hockey action Sunday afternoon on Winton Hill Field.

Juniata (9-3, 3-1 Landmark), ranked 20th in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll, yielded its first goal to the visiting Cardinals in the game's 13th minute, when Catholic's Maura Campbell finished a penalty corner with a blast into the lower left corner of the Juniata cage, beating Juniata goalie Janelle Howard (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to her right. Colleen Harwood was credited with the assist on Campbell's goal.

Catholic (11-1, 4-0 Landmark) took that 1-0 lead into the intermission, and added to it 13 minutes into the second half. Harwood scored to put the Cardinals up 2-0, with Mary Swarthout getting the assist.

The Eagles broke the shutout just over two minutes later, when senior Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) brought the Juniata "senior day" crowd to life with a goal off a feed from Kara Buda (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley). That goal cut the Catholic lead to 2-1 with 22:02 remaining in the game.

However the Cardinals twice in the span of less than a minute to take a commanding lead, with Campbell getting her second marker of the day with 15:05 showing on the clock. Fourty-eight seconds later, Harwood potted her second goal of the afternoon - an unassisted score stretched Catholic's lead to 4-1.

Catholic outshot Juniata, 11-7, and the Cardinals also enjoyed an 11-8 advantage in penalty corners in a tightly-called game. Howard finished the afternoon with just one save while Catholic goalie Megan Comunale logged a pair of saves, in a contest that featured plenty of end-to-end runs with great defense by both teams but had few quality scoring chances for either side.

Juniata closes out its 2011 regular season with five straight road games, starting with a matchup at Elizabethtown College on Thursday, Oct. 20, at 4:30 p.m.
