Complete Messiah Track and Field Invitational results

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Juniata track and field teams competed against some eighteen teams Saturday at the Messiah Invitational at Shoemaker Field. The men finished sixth and the women finished seventh. Included among the Juniata performances were five that ranked among the college's top-five all-time with one school record.

Prior to this weekend, sophomore Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) already owned two school records and was ranked in the top-five all-time in five other individual events. But, at Messiah she added to her growing list of accomplishments as she made her heptathlon debut with a victory and another Juniata school record. Her 3510 points broke the former school record of 3427 set by Kira Troutman nine years ago by 83 points.

As expected, Shaffer's strongest events were the 100m hurdles (16.09) and high jump (5-1). Her next best events were the 200m dash (29.20), 800m dash (2:47.88), and long jump (15-0.75). Her two weakest events were the shot put (26-5.75) and javelin (58-6).

In addition there were two other women and two men who produced marks that ranked among the top-five all-time for the college:

Katrina Woods - 3rd all-time in the 1500m race with a time of 4:54.53
Alyssa Grube - 4th all-time in the 1500m race with a time of 4:56.30
Nathaniel Alter - 4th all-time in the 10000m race with a time of 33:07.73
Dustin Drake - 4th all-time in the hammer throw with a mark of 34.45 meters (122 â?" 10)

There were three other victories by Juniata athletes:

Caroline Morgan - 5000m in 19:05.09
Nathaniel Alter - 10000m in 33:07.73
Jack Iosue - Javelin with a mark of 57.02m (187 â?" 1)

Morgan and Shaffer each earned ten points for their victories, making them the team's highest scorers. Sophomore Lauren Taylor (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) took second in the pole vault to earn eight points, making her the team's third highest scorer.

The leading scorer for the men's squad was junior Nick Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge). He scored in three events to lead the charge for the eagles with eleven points. He was the fourth scorer in both the long and triple jumps with marks of 26-6.5 and 41-6.5, respectively. Then he teamed with Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville), Ryan Trexler (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), and Alex Shope (Hershey, Pa./Trinity) to take fifth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 45.68. With their victories in the 10000m race and javelin, Alter and Iosue were the next leading scorers for the Juniata men.

Up next for the Juniata teams is the Moravian College Greyhound Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., next Friday and Saturday, April 15-16.
