HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College freshman Amy Gable (Kennard-Dale/Stewartstown), who was a pitcher and right fielder on the 2001 softball team, was tabbed as a Commonwealth Conference First-Team All-Star and the Commonwealth Rookie of the Year. She was one of 12 student-athletes named to the conference first team and she became Juniata's second Commonwealth Rookie of the Year in the past three seasons. Brandy Preslovich (Bald Eagle Area/Moshannon), a junior shortstop on the 2001 roster, was the conference Rookie of the Year in 1999.

Gable posted an impressive and a team-best .365 batting average in her first year with the program. She led the team in six offensive categories, including 104 at-bats, 24 runs scored, 38 hits and 45 total bases. In addition, Gable had five doubles, one triple and six stolen bases. In the field, she had a .938 fielding percentage with four errors on 65 total chances.

In the conference, she finished eighth in batting average and sixth in runs scored.

On the mound, Gable posted a respectable 5-4 record, including a 3-1 mark during Commonwealth Conference games. Overall she had a team-best 2.46 earned-run average, and that number dropped to 1.95 on the conference scene. Gable allowed 68 hits and 24 earned runs in 68 1/3 innings of work. She struck out 23 and walked 31.

In her 28 games played, Gable had 11 multi-hit outings, including a season-high 4 for 4 showing at Susquehanna on March 28. She scored more than one run in a contest seven times during the campaign as well. Gable had a personal-best 12-game hitting streak during the middle of the season and she finished the year by hitting safely in the club's final five outings. During the 12-outing hitting spree, Gable raised her batting average from .214 to .392. Overall, she was held hitless in a contest just six times this spring.
