ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - A strong start in doubles action was not enough to carry the Juniata College men\'s tennis team to a conference victory as the Eagles suffered a 6-3 loss to Elizabethtown Monday afternoon. The loss was the first conference set-back of the season for the Blue and Gold who fall to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Commonwealth action. Elizabethtown improved to 7-8 overall and 3-2 in conference action. Juniata got the day started well as the Eagles captured two of the three doubles contests. Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) and Jarrad Silver (Walt Whitman/Bethesda, Md.) claimed an 8-6 win at first doubles. Jau Feixas (University of Barcelona/Barcelona, Spain) and Jonathan Skoner (Central Catholic/Pittsburgh) were also victorious with an 8-2 victory at third doubles as the Eagles took a 2-1 advantage into singles play. But Elizabethtown took control by winning five of the six singles contest. Long was the only Juniata player to pick up a singles win as he posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at fourth singles. Two other matches went to three sets but both went against Juniata. Ryan Navarro (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) managed to bounce back after losing the first set of his third singles match but then lost the third set in a tie breaker. The final score was 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 in favor of Elizabethtown. Aaron Rhodes (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) won the first set at fifth singles before falling 5-7, 6-4, 6-0. Skoner was defeated 6-3, 6-2 at first singles while Silver fell by a 6-3, 6-1 score at second singles. Chew (Phoenixville/Phoenixville) was stopped by scores of 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles. Juniata returns to action on Tuesday when the Eagles host Messiah College in a Commonwealth Conference match. ###
