INDIANA, Pa.? The Juniata College track and field teams battled through cold and wet conditions to enjoy several strong performances at the non-scored Indiana University (Pa.) Open Saturday afternoon. The Eagles men?s team earned 12 top-eight finishes in individual events while the women?s squad captured eight top-eight individual finishes.

The Juniata men earned three first-place efforts in the meet. Randy Anderson (DuBois/DuBois) ran to a first-place finish in the 100, while also adding a third-place effort in the 200. Adam Loser (Central York/York) matched that effort as he leapt to a first-place finish in the high jump.Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) then produced a first-place effort in the long jump for the Eagles. Anderson added a seventh-place effort in the long jump while Gary Ondecko Jr. (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) added an eighth-place effort.

The Eagle men then had several high finishes in the middle-distance events and distance events. Mark Modak (Sandy Spring Friends/Gaithersburg, Md.) had Juniata?s second-highest finish on the track as he placed fourth in the 110 hurdles. In the 5,000 Juniata had three runners finish in the top-eight, led by Mike Chirdon (Riverview/Verona) who crossed the line fifth. Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) added a sixth-place effort while Craig Pannone (Wolcott/Wolcott, Conn.) was eighth. The Eagles then had two sixth-place finishes as Tripp Rudolph (Upper St. Clair/Pittsburgh) was sixth in the 800 and Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) was sixth in the 1,500.

For the Juniata women the top effort came off the track where Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) earned a first-place finish in the high jump. Also earning a high finish in a field event was Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) who placed fifth in the discus.

On the track Juniata?s top finish came as Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) ran to a second-place finish in the steeplechase. The Eagles then had a pair of top-eight efforts in both the 5,000 and the 200. In the 5,000 Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) was fourth and Kristen Gochnauer (Warwick/Lititz) was right behind her in fifth place. In the 200 Tiava Morris (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.) and Amy Reynolds (Jefferson/Harpers Ferry, W.V.) tied for eighth. Morris then added another eighth-place finish in the 400.

The Eagles track and field teams will next be in action at the famous Penn Relays on Thursday and Friday.
