Juniata 3, Gettysburg 0


Gettysburg, Pa. ? In its fifth match this season against an NCAA Tournament team from 2004, the Juniata College women?s volleyball team captured its fourth win against those foes with a 3-0 win over Gettysburg College in Gettysburg Friday night. The win improved Juniata to 12-1 on the season, while the Bullets dropped to 9-8.

The Eagles had three players reach double figures in kills as they won the match by scores of 30-19, 30-16, 30-26.

Amber Thomas (Conestoga Valley/Ephrata) led the team with 13 kills while adding nine digs and a pair of serve aces.

Katie Laucks (West York/York) and Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) were both also in double figures as they pounded out 11 and 10 kills respectively. Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) was just shy of double figures and she recorded nine finishes.

Juniata controlled the match with a solid defensive effort that included 55 digs in just three games Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) paced the squad with 11 digs, while Thomas and Kristi Fitzsimmons (Diamond Ranch/Pomona, Ca.) had nine.

Fitzsimmons also tossed in team-high five serve aces for Juniata, while Thomas and Beth Kozak (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) each had two aces. Kozak dished up 20 assists for the Eagles, while Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle-Antrim) had 12 assists.

The Eagles return to action tomorrow when they play road matches at both Rutgers-Newark and Princeton.
