New York, N.Y. ? The top-ranked Juniata College men?s volleyball team solidified its hold on the top spot in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III poll by posting a 3-0 victory over second-ranked New York University in New York Friday evening. The win was the eighth straight win for Juniata as the Eagles improved to 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the EIVA Tait Division. The Violets fell to 5-10 on the season and 1-7 in the Tait. The Eagles claimed the match by game scores of 30-23, 32-30 and 30-26.

The victory improved Juniata to 6-0 against Division III opponents this season.

Nate Bernardo (Christopher Dock/Lansdale) and Nate Ocasio (Northeastern/Manchester) each posted 14 kills to lead a balanced and efficient Juniata attack. The Eagles attacked at a .434 clip as a team, while holding New York to a .202 team attack percentage. The Blue and Gold finished with just 12 attack errors as a squad, while New York was forced into 22 errors.

Jeremy Bardnt (Souderton/Souderton) added 12 kills for the Eagles. Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) passed out 44 assists and directed the Eagle attack.

Defensively Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) brought up a team-best eight digs while Bernardo was tops on the team with three blocks.

For NYU Macnair Silick led all players with 19 kills, but NYU had no other players in double figures. Leeor Alon passed out 34 assists from the setter position. Tony Spangler had a match-high 10 digs, while Jon Wintermeyer posted four blocks.

Juniata will be back in action on Saturday as the Eagles face Tait Division foe Princeton.
