Juniata 4 Penn State-Altoona 3

Altoona, Pa.? After dropping a tight 4-3 decision in its opening match of the 2005 season, the Juniata College men?s tennis team turned the tables and posted a 5-4 win over Penn State-Altoona at the Blair Racquet Club in Altoona Tuesday afternoon. The win gives Juniata a 1-1 record in 2005.

Juniata claimed three victories in singles competition, and added to the margin by winning two of the three doubles matches. Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) and Dave Bullock (Central Bucks East/Jamison) earned an 8-5 victory at the first doubles position and Brian Sykes (Gateway Regional/Woodburry Heights, N.J.) Romain Plessis (Catholic University of Lille/Brassens, France) notched an 8-5 win at third doubles to earn a pair of points for the Eagles.

Bullock and Plessis were also both winners on the singles courts. Bullock rallied from a one-set deficit to claim a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory at third singles. Plessis won two tight sets by scores of 7-5, 7-5 at the sixth singles. Juniata?s other singles win came at the fourth spot where Jonathan Cohen (Highland Regional/Hollywood, Fla.) took a three-set victory by a score of 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.

Tom Nelson (State College/State College) nearly secured the victory with a singles win at the fifth singles position by he dropped a three-set match 6-4, 5-7, 6-7.

Juniata will return to action on Wednesday when the Eagles play at Commonwealth Conference opponent Elizabethtown.
