Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College women's volleyball player Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) has become the first Juniata College student-athlete to earn one of the prestigious Middle Atlantic States Collegiate Athletic Corporation Scholar Athlete Awards. The MAC selects one female and one male per season to receive the honor, which recognizes an individual who excels in athletics, academics and service for each of the three athletic seasons. Dale was chosen as the 2004 female recipient for the fall season, while Albright College football standout Nick Cushman was the male honoree for the fall. Dale is the first Juniata athlete, and the first women's volleyball player to earn the honor which has been given out since 2001.

The selection is the most recent in a series of honors that Dale has earned since completing her senior season for the Juniata volleyball team. A four-year starter at setter Dale has been chosen as both the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Player of the Year and the ESPN The Magazine College Division Volleyball Academic All-American of the Year. She is the first Juniata player to earn either of those honors and also became the first player since the 1994 season to be named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year in consecutive years. She closes her career ranked first in NCAA Division III history in assists per game, and third in career assists. She holds the Juniata record for career assists and ranks fourth in the program's history in career digs.

The award also recognizes success in the classroom where Dale has also been a standout for Juniata. With a program of emphasis in accounting, she boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.84. She is a member of the National Business and Economics Honor Society, and recently earned her third MAC Academic Honor Roll selection. Dale has served as a peer tutor on campus and was chosen by her teammates as a captain for both her junior and senior season. She was the recipient of the prestigious Calvert Ellis Scholarship and has received numerous other scholarships during her collegiate career.

Juniata compiled an impressive 138-19 record during Dale's four years as the starting setter, and reached the NCAA Division III National Semifinals three times. The Eagles claimed the first national championship in the program's 28-year history this fall with a 3-0 victory over Washington University (Mo.) in the championship match.
