Meadville, Pa. ? The Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams capped their seasons with strong performances at the NCAA Mid-East Regionals in Meadville Saturday afternoon. Both the men?s and women?s teams placed 16th at the meet, while Chris Sheaffer (West York/York) and Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) both earned All-Region honors with their top finishes. They marked the first All-Region performances during the tenure of cross country coach Jon Cutright.

WOMEN?S

Glunt was one of five Eagle women runners to achieve a PR in the meet as the helped Juniata finish 16th of 35 teams. Juniata finished with 439 points in the meet. Glunt placed 32nd in the race, and ran a time of 23:47 to lead the Eagle squad. Right behind Glunt was Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) who placed 37th overall. Her time of 23:54 was also a personal best. Sarah Bay (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg) also notched a personal best with her time of 25:30, which was good for a 108th-place finish. Juniata?s fourth runner was Lia Bella (Morris Catholic/Rockaway, N.J.) whose time of 25:45 was good for 118th place and another PR. Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) rounded out Juniata?s top-five as 144th and covered the course in a time of 26:25. Emily Landis (Christopher Dock/Harleysville) added the final personal-best with her time of 26:35, which earned her a 149th-place finish. Corinne Barabas (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) rounded out the finishes for Juniata as she placed 178th in a time of 27:33.

Gina Lucrezi of DeSales was the top overall finisher on the women?s side, as she posted a time of 22:00.

MEN?S

The Eagle men were led by Sheaffer who put together one of the finest runs of his career. The Eagle junior placed 24th overall and cruised over the course in a personal-best time of 26:42. He helped Juniata earn 457 points as a team, 180 points better than the men?s score from last year when the Eagles placed 21st as a team. Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) also ran a strong race for the men as he placed 48th in the meet. He posted a strong time of 27:23 to come home as Juniata?s second finisher. Freshman Shawn Rummery (Thornton Academy/Dayton, Me.) was Juniata?s third runner placing 109th and running a time of 28:28. Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) finished 126th and posted a time of 28:44 as Juniata?s fourth runner. Ryan Conrad (Waynesboro/Waynesboro) was fifth for the Blue and Gold with his time of 29:22 earning him a 150th-place finish. Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, De.) was right behind him, running 29:24 to place 151st. Juniata?s final runner was Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, De.) who finished 181st and posted a time of 30:00.

Macharia Yuot of Widener was the individual winner in the men?s race, coming home in a time of 25:35.
