Juniata 3, Springfield 0

Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s volleyball team continued its recent success as the Eagles outlasted a scrappy Springfield College team with a 3-0 victory in Memorial Gym Friday night. The Eagles improved their record to 17-2 with the victory and was the eighth consecutive victory for the Blue and Gold. Springfield fell to 12-4 on the season.

Juniata controlled game one from the beginning, racing out to a 16-10 lead on a kill from Katie Laucks (West York/York). Laucks then added two kills down the stretch to lead Juniata to the 30-20 win.

Games two and three saw Springfield run out to early leads, only to have Juniata close late. A kill from Springfield?s Ashley Reves put Springfield in front 10-9. The two teams traded points until back-to-back kills from Erin Wisor (Altoona/Altoona) brought the lead to 22-17 in favor of Juniata. A double block from Wisor and Laucks finished off the 30-26 win.

Wisor helped Juniata bounce back again in game three. Springfield raced out to a 13-8 lead capped with a kill from Jody Pfeifer. Wisor then went back to serve, and served six straight points for Juniata including a pair of aces. The senior captain then added three more kills down the stretch to push Juniata?s lead to 22-18. Setter Carli Dale (Cochranton/Cochranton) closed the match with a kill to secure the 30-25 game-three win.

Wisor and Laucks each finished the match with a team-high 11 kills while Wisor added 13 digs. Dale added eight kills to go along with 40 assists to lead the Eagle attack. Laucks joined Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) with a team-best three blocks. Laucks also added two aces, while Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) paced the team with four aces. Tara McMinn (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) led the team?s defense with 21 digs. Abby Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) chipped in 13 digs along with three aces. Dale also finished in double figured with 12 digs.

Juniata will hit the court again on Saturday when the Eagles take on Division I Princeton in New Jersey.
