Messiah 10, Juniata 0

Grantham, Pa. ? The Juniata College women?s soccer team hung with fourth-ranked Messiah College for 45 minutes before the undefeated Falcons pulled away in the second half as Juniata fell to Messiah 10-0 in Commonwealth action in Grantham Wednesday afternoon. Juniata dropped to 4-5-1 with the set-back while Messiah upped its record to 7-0-1.

Juniata trailed just 3-0 after 45 minutes as Eagle keeper Lisa Russo (Lakeland/Haskell, N.J.) stopped nine shots in the first half. Messiah players Savannah Stolzenburg, Avie Fitzgerald and Breanna Wassel all scored in the first half, with Hanna Levesque assisting on Fitzgerald?s goal.

Messiah?s pressure began to eventually wear down Juniata in the second half as the Falcons poured in seven goals on 22 shots. Fitzgerald added her second goal to start the scoring, and was followed up by a pair from Levesque. Annie Futato assisted on Levesque?s first tally. Stolzenburg added her second to make the score 7-0 Messiah. Stef Rowe followed with two scores, both assisted by Futato, Lisa Smeiles scored the final goal off an assist from Brenna Blalock.

Russo finished with a career-high 17 saves in net for Juniata, while a pair of Messiah keepers combined on the shutout.

Juniata will return to action on Saturday, when the Eagles welcome non-conference foe Villa Julie for a homecoming clash.
