Primary Role

The Director of Administrative Information Services (AIS) coordinates and insures the provision of administrative computing support for the business functions of the college, involving college-wide planning, evaluation, acquisition, implementation and support of institutional data resources used within an enterprise resource planning system.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitors, evaluates and recommends modifications and upgrades of administrative computing systems for business, financial aid, student information, and human resources.
  • Coordinates design, planning, and overall implementation of projects to upgrade/replace the college’s administrative information systems. Coordinate project schedule with vendor for software resources. Provide necessary user training.
  • Writes programs and creates data screens to support administrative information needs. Assist in transferring centrally stored data to user PCs.
  • Troubleshoots problems with administrative data and systems and makes appropriate corrections.
  • Insures file back up and security capabilities. Establishes standards for documentation, system design, and utilization.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Supervision Required/Given

This position is supervised by the Assistant Vice President and Chief Information Officer under general guidelines and direction and must be able to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others.  This position supervises 1 full-time employee and has indirect supervision for 2 additional full-time employees.

Position Qualifications

  • Knowledge and abilities normally acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree in information technology or related discipline.
  • At least five years administrative experience in information technology related to administrative and business applications sufficient to demonstrate competency and capability with: evaluating, administrative computing requirements and capabilities of systems to meet requirements, planning and management of large systems implementation,
  • Data processing methods and procedures, and computer software systems.
  • Systems design and development process, including requirements analysis, feasibility studies, software design, programming, pilot testing, installation, evaluation and operational management.
  • Business process analysis and redesign.
  • Design, management, and operation of managed IT systems.
  • Knowledge of higher education computing environment, customer service skills, managing budgets and support staff and building and managing shared databases.
  • Familiarity with the Datatel ERP, Unidata and SQL-based reporting tools, UniBasic programming, internet/browser technologies, Unix, and Windows preferred.
  • Previous employment experience in higher education preferred; other experience with non-profit organizations or with data and programming in support of mission critical business functions may be substituted.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Must be able to respond to system outages during off-hours.

Work Conditions

  • After hours and on call support is required for emergencies and planned maintenance intervals. 
  • The position is primarily sedentary in a climate controlled office with little exposure to environmental hazards; however, due to the campus environment there will be a need to go from building to building for meetings, specialized department needs, and assisting with equipment relocation.
  • The position may require lifting/pushing/carrying objects up to 10 pounds.
