American Dream: Photographs by Zora Murff

January 16, through February 29, 2020

Documentary photographer Zora Murff connects with people and their surroundings, asking that simple question. Most of the responses surprised him; they “were more about the general idea of the American dream, rather than people’s personal aspirations”, he says. One of his subjects noted that the American Dream “is something that’s accessible for only some of us.” The images and audio clips of the African American voices featured in this exhibition reflect on the ways each person responds to the social and cultural contexts within which they find themselves as they attempt to define and pursue the American Dream.
