Rural Rising is the inaugural day-long symposium on Juniata’s campus designed to bring local community members together to discuss the challenges facing rural areas and to share the creative ways that organizations and individuals have responded to these challenges. Invited morning speakers will range from county planners seeking to make the opportunities of rural towns appeal to young adults to local nonprofit leaders showcasing innovative solutions to limited budgets and staffing. The afternoon will include a grant writing workshop to support those looking for funding. The day will conclude with a reception for Juniata students to share their community engagement projects, including a new oral history program geared toward preserving local history.
