Program Components
There are three main components of the Scholars Program:
- Leadership Seminar (a 1-credit course taught in the Fall): Typically taken in your sophomore year, this course helps you demonstrate intellectual leadership by creating and carrying out an on-campus project to engage our academic community.
- Fellowships Seminar (a 1-credit course taught in the Spring): Typically taken in your junior year, this course helps you think about future goals, and prepares you to apply for competitive fellowships, scholarships, and awards.
- Scholars Series: The Scholars Program sponsors and promotes speakers and events that occur throughout the academic year which often include a reception for Juniata Scholars to meet and engage with the speaker on a deeper level than attendance alone.
The Scholars Program is a way to engage in these activities within a community of intellectual peers. We have a Scholars Lounge as a home base for group leadership projects, fellowships advising, or just for hanging out between classes. We also offer a variety of social events including a celebration of fellowship applicants at Juniata’s annual Liberal Arts Symposium.

Recognition
Juniata Scholars will receive a notation on their transcript if they fulfill the following
three requirements: (1) take the Leadership Seminar and complete a leadership project;
(2) take the Fellowships Seminar and apply for at least one external opportunity;
and (3) attend at least one Scholars Series event per term (8 total).
Note that the Scholars Program is distinct from graduating with Latin honors, distinction
in your Program of Emphasis, and membership in a disciplinary honor society. All of
these other accolades are also possible for Scholars Program members.
