Huntingdon, Pa. ? Juniata College sophomore Kristen Kirk (Newport/Newport) has been named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Conference second team for her performance as a member of the Eagles? women?s basketball squad as chosen by the conference head coaches. It marks the first All-Conference selection for Kirk. Juniata has had at least one player named to the Commonwealth All-Conference team each of the past five seasons.

After seeing limited playing time during her freshman campaign, Kirk became one of the primary offensive weapons for Juniata this season. She piled up a team-leading 351 points, good for an average of 14.6 points per game. She led Juniata in points per game and was third in the Commonwealth Conference. Her 351 points more than tripled her total from her freshman season. She shot 40 percent from the field on the season and hit a team-high 44 three-pointers. She shot 33 percent from long range on the year which was tops on the team and ranked her third in the conference. She closed the year second on the team with 39 steals, and third with 52 assists. Kirk also grabbed 3.8 rebounds per game from her guard position.

After scoring in double figures twice during her freshman season, Kirk hit for 10-or-more points in 19 of Juniata?s 25 games. She topped the 20-point mark on four occasions, including scoring a career-high 29 points in a conference game against Moravian. She was Juniata?s top scorer in 13 of 25 games and finished the season as the team?s high scorer in seven of the team?s final 10 games. Kirk also established new career highs in rebounds and assists with eight and six respectively in a road win against conference foe Elizabethtown.

Juniata finished the season with a record of 5-19. Kirk averaged 20 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in Juniata?s five wins. She shot 50 percent from the field in those games and hit more than 43 percent of her threes.
