Huntingdon, Pa.—A new scholarship honoring the memory of a Juniata College alum and his wife has been created to benefit Juniata County residents.

Named for the late Samuel Franklin Metz Jr. ’39 and Marian R. Metz, the Metz Scholarship will be awarded yearly to scholarship recipients. The scholarship will be awarded to approximately four or five new recipients each year, dependent on funding levels.

Mr. and Mrs. Metz dedicated their lives to education. Both were long-time teachers, with Mrs. Metz serving as a teacher for 35 years within the Juniata and Mifflin county school districts and Mr. Metz working for 27 years in the Juniata County School District as a teacher and administrator.

In addition, he owned and operated the Metz Acres Dairy Farm in Juniata County for 41 years and was a Pennsylvania Holstein Director.

Mr. Metz passed away April 3, 2007, at the age of 89.
