HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Lisa M. Giles, a consultant who has had her own agency since 2000, will spend three days as an "executive in residence" as part of an annual program in the Juniata College Department of Accounting, Business and Economics from Monday, Oct. 15 through Wednesday, Oct. 18.

In addition to her activities during her residency, Giles, CEO and president of Giles & Associates Consultancy Inc., in Lake Forest, Ill., also will present a talk, "Futurescape: Plotting Your Career Plan Strategically" at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 17, in Neff Lecture Hall in the von Liebig Center for Science.

The talk is free and open to the public.

Giles, a 1980 Juniata graduate, is the first woman and first full-time consultant to be an "executive-in-residence" in the college's business department. The program has invited Juniata alumni who have achieved uncommon success in the business world to work in residence at the college for the past three years. While she is on campus, she will be sitting in on classes, offer advice on interviewing, resume preparation and career progression, and work with Juniata's business professors to hold workshops or one-on-one sessions.

Giles founded her consultancy firm in 2000 and the agency specializes in global strategy development, market intelligence and business development transactions. The company's primary client list is in the health care industry, where Giles and her colleagues advise corporate boards, CEOs and executive leadership teams on strategic direction, portfolio optimization and monitoring performance.

Lisa Giles' residency was made possible by an endowment from Carl and Nancy Glaeser. Carl Glaeser is a 1977 graduate of Juniata and Nancy Glaeser is a 1976 graduate.

Before starting her own company, Giles was vice president of strategy development for Searle Pharmaceuticals from 1996 to 2000, where she oversaw global pharmaceutical strategic planning, market research, and internal consulting.

She began her business career in 1980 with Ralston Purina Co. as a manager for customer service and distribution. From 1983 to 1993, she worked for Abbott Laboratories in its marketing and business development department.

In 1994 she joined a private consulting firm, Business Strategy Consulting, based in Portland, Ore., where she specialized in merger integration and portfolio analysis. She joined Searle in 1996.

In addition to her bachelor's degree from Juniata, Giles graduated from executive management programs at the University of Chicago and Stanford University. In 2010 she received an award from Enterprising Women magazine as one of the Top Women Business Owners in America.

She is a member of the board of directors for Durata Therapeutics, the Northwestern Memorial Hospital Foundation and is a member of the board's executive committee for the Art Institute of Chicago's Auxiliary Board.
