HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- After years of retreats, coffeehouses and service opportunities, the Juniata College Campus Ministry Board has decided to try a new outreach activity -- a Ministry Concert featuring Lucio Rubino at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 13 in the Baker Refectory in Ellis Hall.
Lucio Rubino, one of Christian radio's top artist/writer/producers, is the main act of the show titled "Rockin' in a Winter Wonderland." Opening for Rubino is a regional Christian alternative band, the Ryan Payne Band.

Tickets for the concert are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. A discounted rate will be available for groups upon request. Tickets to the public go on sale Jan. 25 and can be purchased by calling (814) 641-3361. Juniata students are to visit the information desk where tickets will be on sale Jan. 18-22. The concert is sponsored by the Christian Ministry Board. E-mail campusministry@juniata.edu for more information.

"This concert is something that will offer a great experience for Juniata students as well as area churches and their youth groups. If the show is well received, it could become an annual event."

Lucio Rubino is performing as an acoustic solo with percussion. Rubino has worked with artists such as Paramore, Chris Kirkpatrick of NSync, Day of Fire, Chasing Victory, Manic Drive as well as producing his own band, StorySide:B.

Rubino's work has earned him the award of Broadcast Music Inc.'s "Top 5 most played songs of 2008 on Christian radio." Additionally, he has received nominations for the Dove Awards, Christian and gospel music's highest honor. StorySide:B's top hits include "Everything and More," and "Miracle."

The opening act for the show will be the Ryan Payne Band, a four-piece Christian alternative band from Chambersburg, Pa. Playing tunes that strike a familiar chord to fans of indie rock, pop, alternative, and worship music, the band has been compared to Downhere, The Fray, and Ben Folds Five.

The Ryan Payne Band has recently found critical acclaim winning the ShoutFest Battle of the Bands preliminary and semifinal rounds for their region. The bands latest album is titled "Open Up," with hits like "Rescue" and "Too Old Too Fast."

In conjunction with the concert, a Juniata College Church of the Brethren student open house will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13. Groups of students who attend the open house and stay for the concert will be given a discounted rate for tickets.

In addition, Ryan Payne Band will be performing at the St. James Lutheran Church at 525 Mifflin Street during the morning service on Sunday, Feb. 14.

"This concert is something that will offer a great experience for Juniata students as well as area churches and their youth groups," says David Witkovsky, Juniata College chaplain. "If the show is well received, it could become an annual event."
