Huntingdon, PA - Juniata College junior Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) has been named the Commonwealth Conference player of the week for his efforts on the diamond for the Eagles this past week. It is the third time this season that a Juniata baseball player has captured a weekly conference honor.

Goedkoop enjoyed an extremely productive offensive week as Juniata posted a 4-1 record in five conference games. The junior pounded out six hits on the week, including three home runs. He drove in 13 runs and scored another six runs over the five games. In a 7-0 win over conference foe Lebanon Valley he went 2-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI and two runs scored. This came after he went 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI in the first game of the doubleheader. He then added three hits, another home run, and four RBI in a doubleheader against Albright. He finished the week with a .375 batting average and a 1.000 slugging percentage.

After earning first-team All-Conference recognition as a sophomore Goedkoop has remained a steady part of the Juniata offensive attack. He has played and started all 28 games for the Blue and Gold, and ranks third on the team with a .333 batting average. His 36 RBI lead the team and are more than 10 more than any other player in the conference. He is also tied for the conference lead with five home runs, a total that also leads the Juniata team. Goedkoop has a .595 slugging percentage and has hit safely in 17 of Juniata's 28 games and has driven in at least one run in 17 games. He ranks third on Juniata with 22 runs scored and has helped the Eagles outscore opponents 192-148 on the season.

With Goedkoop playing a vital role in the team's offense Juniata is off to an 18-10 start through 28 games. The Eagles are in second place in the Commonwealth Conference with a 10-5 record with six conference games remaining in the regular season. The Eagles return to action with a non-conference game against St. Vincent College on Wednesday.
