Assistant Dean of Admission
- BA, McDaniel College
- Joined the Juniata staff in 2018
Fernando was born in Washington, DC, and grew up right outside the district in Gaithersburg, Maryland. As a first generation American, the college process was not always easy, but he stumbled upon McDaniel College, where he happily spent his college years. Besides working in admissions as a tour guide, he was involved in many ways across campus, including Catholic Campus Ministries, the Hispano-Latino Alliance, Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, and singing every semester with the college choir and gospel choir. He credits his most transformative experience as his semester abroad at McDaniel’s campus in Budapest, Hungary. Fernando would go on to graduate with a degree in English, while also minoring in French, theatre, and writing.
Fernando’s love for representing his alma mater led him to a career in admissions, where he is able to introduce a liberal arts education to students all over the country. He has worked for Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, and Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, finally joining the Juniata team in the summer of 2018. Fernando has fallen in love with the picturesque campus set beside the mountains of central Pennsylvania, along with the warm and welcoming people of the college, and he is excited to share what makes Juniata special with a new group of students. He works with students from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah.
When not in the office, you can find Fernando catching a baseball game, hiking, trying to improve his running times, exploring all kinds of festivals, and looking for brunch spots all over the country.
