Statton also was an executive with several Bechtel subsidiaries. He was president of Bechtel Communications from 2004 to 2007 and also served on the boards for Bechtel's U.S. Water Company and International Water LLC during the same period of time.

During his career at Bechtel, Statton has worked both at the company's San Francisco headquarters and worked at several field assignments, including an assignment as manager of Asia Pacific Operations. Over his nearly four-decade career, he has worked as a cost engineer, project manager, business development manager and as the fossil power business unit manager for the corporation.
