HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College closed its weekend series against The Catholic University of America falling to the Landmark Conference opponent, 10-2, Sunday afternoon at Langdon-Goodale Field.

Juniata (8-9, 1-5 Landmark) held Catholic (12-7, 5-1) at one run until the Cardinals added four more in the top of the fourth inning.

Juniata responded to Catholic's four runs and scored for the first time in the bottom of the fourth. Johnny Martinez (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) got on board with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third off of Ian Thorne's (Germantown, Pa./Seneca Valley) single. Martinez scoredon Dan Gray's (Johnstown, Pa./Richland) single.

Catholic plated four more runs in the sixth inning and Juniata scored their second run of the game in the bottom of the frame. Martinez walked, stole second off Joe Sforza's (Pittstown, N.J./Immaculata) fly ball to right field. Thorne stroked a single into left center to bring Martinez home.

Matt Grieb plated the last run for the Cardinals in the seventh.

Thorne went 2-for-2 to lead the Eagles at the plate with one run batted in. Starter Sforza was charged with the loss striking out two Cardinal batters, walking five, and allowing seven earned runs on nine hits. Nate Burkey (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley), Josh Green (Hagerstown, Md./Clear Springs), and Ben Sealy (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) each took the mound to finish out the game.

Grieb went 3-for-3 at bat with one RBI to lead Catholic's offense. Starter Andrew Carroll struck out one Eagle, walked four, and allowed two earned runs on five hits to get credit for the win.

Juniata returns to Langdon-Goodale Field on Tuesday, Mar. 29, when the Eagles host non-conference opponent Frostburg State at 1:00 p.m.
