STEVENSON, Md. -- Juniata College men's tennis took two of three doubles matches but was unable to carry that advantage through singles play in a 5-4 loss to Stevenson University, Friday afternoon at Greenspring Tennis Courts.

Juniata (4-5) got a win at no. 1 doubles with Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) teaming up for an 8-0 blanking of the Mustangs' Ted Cooke and Brian Bollman, while Arnab Chakrabarti (Alpharetta, Ga./Alpharetta) and Scott Andrews (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Altoona) posted an 8-3 victory at no. 2 doubles over Ben Petasky and Randy Speck.

Perow took the momentum of his doubles win into his no. 2 singles match against Bollman, eventually coming out on top in a three-set thriller. Down by several games in the second set, Perow fought his way back into the set and eventually won in dominating fashion in a tiebreaker. The scenario repeated itself in the third set, only this time for Bollman - who battled to force the tiebreaker, only to watch Perow handily complete the win.

Scores for Perow in the no. 2 singles match were 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-2).

"It was a close three-set match with several momentum changes for both players, and the big different was Elliott's ability to convert the tiebreakers," said Juniata head coach Beth Bleil.

Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) posted Juniata's other singles victory, with a commanding 6-3, 6-2, triumph over Petasky at no. 3 singles.

"Brice played an impressive match, taking command early on and rolling his way to the win," said Bleil.

Chakrabarti came closest to finding a third singles point for the Eagles in his no. 4 singles match, taking Speck into a tiebreaker in the first set before falling 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 in the two set loss. Matt Butler (Quakertown, Pa./Salisbury, Conn.), playing in his first collegiate tennis match, showed well at no. 6 singles but dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Stevenson's Kevin Stamm.

"Matt shows great promise in his tennis future, and I look forward to his development," said Bleil.

Juniata returns to the courts on Wednesday, March 30, when it hosts Penn State Altoona on the Raffensperger Tennis Courts. Match start time is slated for 4:00 p.m.
