PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Both the Juniata men's and women's cross country teams opened their season on Saturday morning at the Duquesne Duals, which took place at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Senior Matt Bailey (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) led the men in the 8k race with a time of 26:35 and an 18th place finish. Sophomore Ceth Parker (Sabillasville, Md./Catoctin) was next for the Eagles, posting a time of 27:25, which placed him 31st. Sophomore Nikolai Klena (Franklin, Pa./Oil City) and freshman Ryan Trexler(Altoona, Pa./Altoona), finished 49th and 51st, with times of 28:10 and 28:15 respectively. Rounding out the top five finishers for Juniata was junior Steve Schmitt (New Providence, Pa./Solanco), ran a time of 28:05, good enough for 71st place.

In the women's 5k race, Juniata was paced by senior Laura Rupprecht (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) with a time of 20:16, good for a 24th place finish. Following Rupprecht was freshman Caroline Morgan (Havertown, Pa./ Haverford Township) who was 31st with a time of 20:48. The next Eagles to cross the line were juniors Megan McQuillan (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough) and Anne Wakabayaski (El Cajon, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace), posting times of 21:20 and 21:24, placing them 41st and 43rd respectively. The final top five finisher for the Juniata women was freshman Sarah Trescher (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey), who posted a time of 22:37, placing her 53rd.

The men's and the women's teams will travel to Lock Haven University next Saturday, September 12, to compete in the Lock Haven Invitational.
