HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College junior Zach Wanner (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) was named the EIVA Tait Division Player of the Week for the week ending February 22, 2009, earning conference weekly honors for the second time in three weeks.

Wanner tallied 47 kills (5.22/game) while hitting .280 with 12 digs and six blocks, while leading the Eagles to a pair of EIVA Tait wins over 14th-ranked George Mason and Princeton.

The win over the Patriots was Juniata's first win over a team ranked in the Bison/AVCA Division I-II poll since March 2, 2005, when the Eagles posted a 3-2 win over then 13th-ranked George Mason.

Wanner tallied a career-high 30 kills on 59 swings with only nine errors, a .356 attack percentage, with five digs and four blocks against the Patriots. He then posted 17 kills on 48 swings the following night against Princeton, with a pair of blocks.

For the season, Wanner has amassed 164 kills (4.43/game) with 44 digs and 17 blocks. He currently ranks fifth in the EIVA in kills per game.

Juniata (7-3, 4-2 EIVA Tait), ranked second in the Bison/AVCA Division III poll, hosts Division III rivals Springfield College (7-6, 1-4 EIVA Tait) and NYU (3-11, 2-1 EIVA Hay) for a pair of matches this weekend. No. 1-ranked Springfield will visit the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center on Friday at 7:00 p.m., followed by 10th-ranked NYU on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
