MADISON, N.J. -- The Juniata College softball team was picked to finish sixth this season in the Landmark Conference, in preseason voting conducted among the league's head coaches and sports information directors.

The Eagles received 25 points in the voting, just two points behind fifth-place Drew University with 27 points. Moravian College was picked to win the inaugural Landmark Conference softball championship, receiving 60 points. Susquehanna University was second with 50 points, followed by Catholic University, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Drew University, Juniata College, and the University of Scranton.

Juniata posted a 13-17 record in 2007, during its final season of competition in the Commonwealth Conference. The Eagles return virtually the entire roster for 2008, led by sophomore Rachel Nagy (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth), who batted .420 last season with 11 extra-base hits and a team-high 25 RBI. The pitching staff is anchored by sophomore Alyssa Erb (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg), who posted a 12-6 record in her freshman season with a 1.90 ERA in 129 innings pitched with 134 strikeouts.

The Eagles open their 2008 season on Monday, March 3, down in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
