ERIE, Pa. - Senior forward Jess Winemiller (York, Pa./Dallastown) connected on a game-winning jumper with three seconds left on the clock to post a 53-51 win over Bethany College (W.Va.), in the championship game of the Penn State-Behrend tournament in Erie, Pa. The Eagles (2-0) held a seven-point lead as late as the 4:58 mark of the second half, but saw that lead evaporate over the next two minutes. Bethany knotted the game at 51-51 on a pair of free-throws with 2:00 remaining on the clock, but the Juniata defense held Bethany to just one unsuccessful field goal attempt over the final three minutes of the game. Earlier in the second half, Bethany held a 40-39 lead with 8:52 remaining, after a three-pointer by Samantha Bower. However Juniata responded with a 9-1 run to take what-appeared-to-be a commanding lead. Winemiller finished with a game-high 14 points, followed by Kelly Ashcraft (Bellefonte, Pa./State College Area) with the double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Juniata survived a 34.5% (19-55) shooting performance from the field and 29 turnovers to post the win; Bethany performed no better, shooting just 28.3% (15-53) from the floor with 27 turnovers. The Eagles return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 20, when they face Penn State-Altoona at 6:00 p.m. in Altoona, Pa.
