SCRANTON, Pa. - A goal by University of Scranton freshman Caroline Corasaniti in the 85th minute lifted the Royals to a 3-2 win over Juniata College, in a Landmark Conference Women's Soccer Tournament semifinal match on Wednesday night in Scranton, Pa. After a scoreless first half of play, Juniata jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 52nd minute when Amanda Broadwell (Newfoundland, N.J./Morris Knolls) blasted in a shot from approximately 12 yards out. Scranton knotted the game at 1-1 less than a minute later on a goal by Corasaniti from about 14 yards out, off a served ball from the right sideline by Royal back Emily Boyce. The Royal took the lead in the 55th minute when Mary Beth Vogel's header found the back of the Juniata goal, with an assist going to Beth Stephens. Shannon Pierce (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) deflected a ball toward Ruggiero off a corner kick, with Ruggiero finishing the shot to beat Royal keeper Jackie Colley. The game remained deadlocked for the next 25 minutes, until Corasaniti scored her second of the night to give Scranton the win. Juniata keeper Lisa Russo (Haskell, N.J./Lakeland) played all 90 minutes and finished with six saves, while Colley logged one save on the night. Scranton outshot Juniata 15-11 overall, 9-3 in shots on goal.
