HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The second-ranked Juniata College women's volleyball squad had to overcome a brief third game scare from Haverford College, but eventually put away the 18th-ranked Fords in three games, 30-19, 30-17, and 30-23, Wednesday night at the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center in Huntingdon, Pa. Haverford briefly held a 10-9 and 11-10 lead over the Eagles (25-3, 6-0 Landmark) in game three, before Juniata picked up five straight points off service by Jessica Ritchey (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) to take a 16-11 lead and put some distance between the Eagles and the Fords. Game one was also a tight affair, with Juniata's lead cut to 16-15 at one point. The Eagles outscored Haverford 14-4 the rest of the way, including four kills by Megan Lamens (Schellsburg, Pa./Berlin Brothersvalley) and a pair of service aces by Molly Sollenberger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley). Game two was thoroughly dominated by the Eagles, who held Haverford to a .053 attack percentage for the game. Overall, Juniata posted a .341 attack percentage for the match while holding the Fords to a .167 attack percentage. Erin Albert (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) finished the match with 13 kills and seven blocks, while Amber Thomas (Ephrata, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and Megan Sollenberger (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each had a team-high 17 digs. Thomas tallied 11 kills on the night, while Lamens finished with 12. Beth Kozak (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) For Haverford, Rachel Salvo had 12 kills and 12 digs, while Rebecca Salvo finished with 11 kills. Laura Nuyen led the Fords with 16 digs. Juniata will return to action on Friday night when it hosts Carnegie Mellon and #7 University of La Verne (Calif.) in first day action at the Wid Guisler Invitational tournament. The Juniata-Carnegie Mellon match with start at 4:00 p.m., followed by Juniata-La Verne at 8:00 p.m.
