ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - After the first full day of competition at the 2007 MAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships the Juniata College men\'s and women\'s teams both find themselves in position to earn top finishes in the team competition. The men\'s team holds down the sixth spot with 26 points while the women are seventh in the 10-team field with 20 points. Both the men\'s and women\'s teams captured gold medal finishes on the day. For the men\'s team Jason Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) crossed the line first in the steeplechase with a time of 9:47.41. He was followed by Eric Hoover (Brandywine/Wilmington, Del.) who placed second in the event. For the women Kelsey Buffenmyer (Donegal/Mount Joy) earned victory in the high jump for the second time in as many years. She won the event with a best effort of 1.63 meters. Also earning points on the day was Matthew Booth (Allentown Central Catholic/Allentown) who leaped to a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 13.45 meters. Capping the scoring was Matthew Bailey (Hempfield/East Petersburg) who placed seventh in the 10,000 by running a time of 33:53.67. The Juniata women picked up two point-scoring performances in the 10,000 with Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) running a time of 40:10.86 while Meghan Jones (Meadville/Meadville) was seventh. Kristen Gochnauer (Warwick/Lititz) was seventh in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 12:49.98. Adding to the scoring in the field events was Maggie Wolenter (Audubon/Audubon, N.J.) who was sixth in the discus with a best toss of 32.25 meters. Juniata will complete the three-day conference championships on Saturday. ###
