HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College has scheduled a second Annual Block Party and a 5K race to kick off the college's football home opener against Lycoming. All attendees will receive free tickets to the football game. The festivities for the block party will start at 11 a.m., Sept 9 at the vacant lot at the corner of Mifflin and 17th streets.
There is no charge or fee for the block party, all Juniata students and community residents are welcome.
According to Staci Weber, director of student activities, there will be a full slate of activities for families, children and athletes.
The event starts off at 9 a.m. with registration for a 5K race and Family One-Mile Walk, which starts at Moore and 17th streets. Participants must pay $13 on the day of the race or $10 in advance to enter. Participants will receive a T-Shirt. "We have a family package that offers four shirts for $30 in advance and $40 on race day," says Staci Weber, director of student activities. Children under age 5 can participate for free, but will not receive a T-Shirt.
At 10 a.m., the 5K race will start, followed by a 10:05 a.m. start for the one-mile walk. The race will go through the Highlands area and streets north of the college.
The block party begins at 11 a.m., and features music provided by WKVR, the college radio station. There will be free food, including barbecued chicken, pasta salad, rolls, tossed salad and cord on the cob. Refreshments include water bottles and juices.
In addition there will be free games, such as an inflatable "Bouncy House" and crafts, such as decorating water bottles or megaphones.
The football game, Juniata's home opener against Lycoming College, will start with a 1:30 P.M. kickoff.
