Huntingdon, Pa. ? After a sluggish weekend of offensive production this past weekend, the Juniata College baseball team erupted for 27 runs in posting a convince doubleheader sweep over non-conference foe Baptist Bible College in Huntingdon Wednesday afternoon. Juniata claimed game one by a 16-0 score, and then posted an 11-0 victory in game two. The two wins brought Juniata to 14-8 overall, while Baptist Bible dropped to 3-4 on the season.

Juniata set the tone for the day early in game one, as the Eagles jumped on the visitors with two runs in the first, and another seven in the bottom of the second. Baptist Bible committed three of its six errors in the second and David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) drove in a run on one of Juniata?s three hits in the frame.

Juniata hurler Darius Reed (Juniata Valley/Alexandria) would make the lead stand up as he stifled the Defender bats, allowing just one hit and no runs in five innings of work.

The Eagles continued to pour on the lead as they added four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Another two Baptist Bible errors helped the cause, and Dan Kauffman (Penn Manor/Conestoga) notched an RBI single in the inning to drive in Juniata?s 13th run. Juniata closed its scoring with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jayme Fye?s (Philipsburg-Osceola/Philipsburg) RBI double accounted for the final two runs in the game for the Blue and Gold.

Kyle Hardenbrook was charged with the loss for the visitors, falling to 0-2 on the season.

Juniata finished the game with 11 hits. Frank Liscio (SLW Centennial/Port St. Lucie, Fla.) led Juniata with two hits in the game. Four different Eagles each finished with two RBI.

Game two mirrored game one as strong hitting and pitching from Juniata was matched by poor defense from the visitors. Juniata scored 11 runs on 11 hits in game two, and was aided by five Baptist Bible miscues that led to five unearned runs.

Juniata starter Eric Bridenbaugh (Central/Martinsburg) was sharp early on as he didn?t allow a base runner until two men were out in the top of the fourth. By that point Juniata had moved to a 7-0 lead after plating five runs in the bottom of the first, and another two in the second.

In the first Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) and Darren Hake (Red Lion/Red Lion) each drove in a pair of runs with singles. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) added an RBI single in the second and the Eagles were off and running. The home team added another run in the bottom of the fourth when an RBI single from Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) plated Dan DeRosa (Kingston/Kingston, N.Y.). DeRosa then added an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth to drive home another run, and a single from Liscio brought home Cody Zong (McVeytown/Lewistown) with Juniata?s final run.

Bridenbaugh went five innings, allowing no runs on five hits to earn his first victory of the season. Jim Sintic dropped to 1-1 for Baptist Bible as he allowed all 11 runs in five innings.

Russell finished the game 3-for-3 for Juniata, with a run and an RBI. Saintz added two hits and a pair of runs scored.

Juniata returns to action on Thursday when Juniata travels to play Commonwealth Conference foe Lebanon Valley.
