Purpose of the Spring Break Trip:

The 2016 Alternative Spring Break To New Orleans, LA was an interfaith service opportunity cosponsored by Juniata Campus Ministry and the Juniata Christian Fellowship, Hillel, and Unitarian Universalist Union student organizations. The purpose of the trip was to engage in common service with fellow students who come from different religious backgrounds as well as to develop an understanding and appreciation of the religious diversity represented at Juniata.

Throughout the week the group worked in a variety of community gardens developed by Capstone, a local organization seeking to address the food insecurity of the Lower Ninth Ward. In the evenings, our group spent time in conversation and visiting each other’s places of worship so that we might experience a variety of faith traditions and learn from and about one another as we work together. Finally, time was spent learning about the culture and diversity of New Orleans itself. This was accomplished by visiting cultural museums, going on tours of the city, and of course, by sampling beignets at the Café du Monde.
