Juniata College Michael Beamer

Michael Beamer

Director, Intensive English Program

I joined the Intensive English Program as the Director in January 2010. Before coming to Juniata, I lived and worked in Japan for a total of nine years as an EFL teacher. I earned my MA in ESL from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I love interacting with people from all over the world and doing what I can to make the world come together with more understanding and respect. In my spare time I like to play golf, cook, take walks with my wife, and go snorkeling and scuba diving.

Kati Csoman

Dean of International Education

I have worked in international education for twenty-five years, for fifteen years at Juniata. I have lived and worked abroad in Hungary and in The Gambia and have traveled to many other countries around the world. I most recently in July 2014 led a group of educators to Morocco for one month where I studied Arabic. I teach the America: Nation of Immigrants course. This is a subject which inspires me greatly, because my father is an immigrant from Hungary. I love to work with students to help them develop language and intercultural skills to contribute to a world of peace as true global citizens.

Trista Rappert-McGetrick

Intensive English Program Instructor

I am happy to be teaching in the Intensive English Program and am excited to help Juniata’s international students improve their academic English and reach their educational goals. I spent the 2014-2015 academic year as a Fulbright Fellow in Ukraine, researching the English-medium academic writing practices of Ukrainian scholars and developing a curriculum of research-writing workshops for professors and PhD candidates. I graduated from Penn State in 2014 with an MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, where I also worked as an adjunct instructor in the Intensive English Communication Program. Before that, I spent several years teaching and tutoring ESL, Russian, German, symbolic logic, and test preparation. In my spare time, I read, enjoy the outdoors, sing, paint, and play the mandolin. I love traveling and have lived and worked in Russia, Austria, Germany, and Ukraine.
