Huntingdon, Pa. ? The Juniata College baseball team pounded out 13 hits while limiting the visiting Moravian College Greyhounds to five hits en route to a 10-2 victory in Commonwealth Conference postseason action in Huntingdon Wednesday afternoon. The second-seeded Eagles will play top seed Messiah in Reading on Friday afternoon. Moravian will play Elizabethtown, which dropped a 1-0 decision to Messiah on Wednesday, in an elimination game Friday morning. Juniata improved to 22-14 with the win, while the Greyhounds are now 13-21.

Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) followed with a two-run home run to left and the Eagles held the 7-1 lead.

That lead would be plenty for Juniata hurler Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) who allowed one run while scattering four hits. Fye fanned five batters during the game and walked three.

A sacrifice fly from Beaver brought home Sternberg with Juniata?s eighth run in the bottom of the fifth.

Fye was able to pitch out of jams in the fifth and seventh innings. The Greyhounds put a pair of runners on with two outs in the fifth by Fye struck out the next batter to end the inning. In the seventh, again with two outs, Fye walked a pair of hitters, then got out of the jam with a fly out to left.

Juniata capped its scoring in the bottom of the seventh. Sternberg recorded his third hit of the game, this time a solo home run to leftfield. Then with two outs Beaver doubled and came home on a triple from Saintz. It was Saintz?s seventh triple of the season, which breaks the Juniata single-game record.

Moravian got a single run in the eighth as Richie Cline hit a solo homer of Juniata reliever Derek Tyson (Penns Valley/Penns Valley). Tyson closed out the eight and then Eric Hatten (Dubois/Dubois) pitched a perfect ninth to seal the win.
