MEN'S VOLLEYBALL (18-6, 7-5 EIVA Tait): April 29 vs. Rutgers-Newark (EIVA Semifinal);
May 1 EIVA Championship*. *If advance.

Juniata advanced to the semifinals of the EIVA Tournament on the strength of a 3-1 victory over Division III rival Springfield. Juniata earned the victory by game scores of 30-20, 26-30, 30-25 and 30-20. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) paced Juniata with 15 kills offensively. He also led the team with three serve aces and added eight digs for the defense. Sophomore Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) had a monster game as he notched 12 kills with a .800 attack percentage. He also recorded a career-high 11 blocks in the match. Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) matched Withum with 12 kills with a .550 hitting percentage and five blocks of his own. Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) passed out 53 assists for the Eagles and helped the team to a .383 attack percentage for the game. Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) had eight kills, two aces and four digs on the evening. Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) paced Juniata with 11 digs. Juniata advances to the EIVA semifinals for the first time since 1999.

SOFTBALL (20-11, 7-7 Commonwealth): April 30-May 1 at Commonwealth Play-offs (at Lebanon Valley).

Juniata closed the regular season by posting a 5-3 record on the week, including three conference wins which helped Juniata earn a spot in the conference postseason for the second consecutive season. Juniata clinched the berth with a 5-2 win over Susquehanna in the second game of a doubleheader. Juniata also swept conference foe Elizabethtown in the team's final home game of the season. Juniata will enter the postseason as the four seed. Not including a sweep of Mount Aloysius for which stats are not yet available, Abby Sener (Donegal/Marietta) paced the team with a .429 batting average while adding two RBI. Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) notched a team-high seven hits on the week and also scored four runs. Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel/Claysburg) also scored four runs while posting five hits and driving in a team-high five runs. Helsel had the go-ahead RBI in wins over Susquehanna and Elizabethtown during the week. Casandra Dutzer (Danville/Riverside) added three hits for Juniata while driving in a pair of runs. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) posted a 0.58 ERA on the week, allowing just two earned runs in 24 innings. She struck out 14 hitters on the week. Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) was 2-1 during the week, and posted a 1.05 ERA. Bartosik earned the win in Juniata's postseason clinching victory over Susquehanna.

MEN'S TENNIS (2-6, 2-5 Commonwealth):

Sophomore Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) lost his first-round match at the MAC Individual Championships. Eicher was the only Juniata player competing at the Championships. Competing against Jon Stanley of Messiah, Eicher earned a win in the first set by a 6-3 score, but then dropped the final two sets 6-3, 6-3. It was the only first-round match in the draw that went to a third set. Just in his sophomore season, Eicher advanced to the second round of the singles draw during his freshman season. Eicher finishes his sophomore season with a singles record of 4-5.

BASEBALL (16-13, 9-6 Commonwealth): April 27 at Albright*; April 28 vs. Albright (2)*;
April 29 vs. Susquehanna*; May 1 at Susquehanna (2)*. *Commonwealth Conference game.

Juniata posted a 2-4 record on the week, but both of the wins came in sweeping a conference doubleheader from Widener. Andrew Michanowicz (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) and Jayme Fye (Philipsburg/Philipsburg) each posted a win for Juniata. Michanowicz allowed just two earned runs and eight hits in six and third innings of work. Fye earned a win over Widener by allowing four runs in six innings of work. Eric Hatten (Dubois/Dubois) earned a save in each of the two victories over Widener. Offensively for Juniata, Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) paced the team with .438 batting average, a .750 slugging percentage and five runs scored. Three of his seven hits went for extra bases including a home run in a victory over Widener. He added two RBI on the week. Darren Hake (Red Lion/Red Lion) led the team with eight hits, which included a 4-for-4 performance against Widener. Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) and David Saintz (Titusville/Titusville) each had seven hits for Juniata. Goedkoop scored four runs for the Eagles, while adding four doubles, a home run and four runs driven in. Saintz led the team with five RBI while adding two triples, both coming in a single game against Widener. Marc Frailey (Middletown/Middletown) and Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) each posted four hits on the week.

TRACK AND FIELD: April 30-May 1 at MAC Championships.

Juniata had two relay teams compete at the famed Penn Relays, and then saw the team compete at the Dickinson Invitational. At the Penn Relays For the second time this season the Juniata College women's track team has topped the school record in the 4x400-meter relay. The Eagle team of Juliana Hillegass (Shanksville-Stonycreek/Berlin), Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.), Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) and Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) broke the previous school record in the event, which the quartet had set at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic two weekends ago. The group placed second in their heat, and finished the race in a time of 4:01.41 which topped the previous record by nearly two seconds. On the men's side competing against teams primarily from the Middle Atlantic Conference and the Centennial Conference, the Eagle men placed 14th in the 15 team field. Juniata's quartet of Dusty Sier (Smithsburg (Md.)/Smithsburg), Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois), Gary Ondecko (Bishop Carroll/Northern Cambria) and Jeremy Lampert (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) finished the race in a time of 3:35.83. At the Dickinson Invitational Juniata posted strong finishes on the men's and women's side. Leading the way on the afternoon where the women sprinters who posted Juniata's lone top finish for the Eagles. Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) placed first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 58.78. Right behind her was teammate Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore, Md.) who placed second in the event. The duo added two more top finishes as Rynkewitz placed fifth in the 200-meter and Amato raced in fourth in the 800. Also posting high finishes on the women's side was Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) whose fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles rounded out Juniata's top-10 finishes in the track events. In the field events Debbie Delaney (Franklin/Reisertown, Md.) placed fifth for the Eagles in the discus and Andrea Denkovich (Greencastle-Antrim/Greencastle) tossed the javelin 11' 10 _" to place fourth. On the men's side Dusty Sier (Smithsburg (Md.)/Smithsburg) placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and then earned a seventh-place finish in the 200. Matching Sier's fifth-place finish was Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) in the 1,500 and Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) in the long jump. Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) jumped to an eighth-place finish in the long jump. Shawn Miller (Altoona/Altoona) finished ninth in the pole vault.
