MEN?S VOLLEYBALL (13-6, 7-5 EIVA Tait): Apr. 9 vs. EIVA DIII Semifinal vs. Springfield;
Apr.10 vs. EIVA DIII Championship.
Juniata was 2-1 on the week, earning a 3-0 victory over Division I George Mason, and falling in four games to Springfield College. The win over George Mason marked the first time since the 1996 season that Juniata has won both games against the Division I Patriots. Against Springfield Brian Dinning (Penn Hills/Pittsburgh) was one kill shy of matching his career high as he knocked out 22 on the night. Glenn DeHaven (Walt Whitman/South Huntington, N.Y.) added 10 kills for Juniata. Ricky Ziegler (Northeastern/Manchester) passed out 54 assists for Juniata and led the team with two serve aces. Cordt Withum (Penn Manor/Holtwood) led all players with nine blocks on the night, and Tim Cole (Pennsbury/Yardley) paced the team with 12 digs. Against George Mason the Eagles earned the victory by game scores of 30-28, 30-21 and 30-28. Ryan Genova (Antietam/Reading) was one of three Juniata players who reached double figures in kills as he knocked out 13 on the match. Dinning finished 12 attacks for Juniata and Kenny Eiser (Central Bucks West/Doylestown) added 10 kills on the night.

SOFTBALL (11-3, 3-3 Commonwealth): Apr. 7 vs. Gettysburg; Apr 9 vs. Moravian*.

Juniata posted a 3-1 record on the week, including a sweep of conference foe Albright. Juniata also split a doubleheader against Commonwealth opponent Messiah. Renae Hobbs (Mount Union/Mount Union) earned a pair of wins on the week, including pitching a complete game as the Eagles defeated Albright 5-2 in 10 innings. Hobbs allowed just two earned runs in 17 innings for an ERA of 0.82 on the week. Lizzie Bartosik (Penn/Granger, In.) allowed two runs on three hits to earn her fourth win of the season. Jessica Darrow (Wellsboro/Wellsboro) pitched a solid game in a losing effort against Messiah as she allowed two runs in five innings. Offensively, Sarah Patterson (Danville/Danville) paced Juniata with a .417 batting average on the week. Patterson added two runs scored and four RBI, and knocked out her first home run of the season. Amber Helsel (Claysburg-Kimmel) hit .308 on the week and scored a team-best three runs. She also drove in a pair of runs for the Eagles. Becky Herr (Hamburg/Hamburg) drilled a solo home run in a win over Albright and finished the week with two RBI. Amy Gable had three hits in 13 at bats with an RBI and two runs scored. Allison D'Ambrosia (State College/Boalsburg) drove in three runs on the week for Juniata as she notched a pair of doubles.

BASEBALL (12-6, 6-1 Commonwealth): Apr. 8 at Albright*; Apr. 9 vs. Albright* (2); Apr. 10 at Pitt-Bradford (2).
*Commonwealth Conference game.
Juniata's only game on the week was a 16-4 victory over Pitt-Greensburg. Darius Reed (Juniata Valley/Alexandria) pitched five innings, allowing three runs on five hits to earn his second win of the season. Walt Goedkoop (Manheim Township/Lancaster) continued his strong offensive play as he went 2-for-4 with four runs scored and three RBI. Troy Beaver (Bellwood-Antis/Bellwood) finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Will Russell (Tyrone/Tyrone) added two hits with two runs scored and an RBI. Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) drove in a pair of runs for Juniata in the win. The Eagles will enter the new week on a seven-game winning streak.

MEN'S TENNIS (2-1, 2-1 Commonwealth): Apr. 5 at Penn State-Altoona; Apr. 8 at Messiah*.
*MAC Commonwealth match.
Juniata dropped its first match of the season as the Eagles were outlasted by Lebanon Valley by a score of 5-2. Neil Eicher (Altoona/Altoona) dropped the first set 3-6, but rebounded to claim 6-3, 6-4 wins in the final two sets to earn a win at the number one singles position. Satoshi Kimura (L.B. Pearson's College (CA)/Nasano, Japan) claimed Juniata's other singles win at the number two singles spot. Kimura won the first set 6-0, then dropped set two 2-6, before prevailing 6-2 in the third. Juniata lost three tight doubles matches, with the closest coming at the third doubles match. Scott Noerr (Lewistown/Lewistown) and Brandon Long (Lebanon/Lebanon) fell by a 8-6 score at the third doubles spot.

TRACK AND FIELD: Apr. 7 Juniata Pre-Easter meet; Apr 9 at Bucknell Distance Carnival;
Apr. 10 at Bucknell Open.
The Juniata College track and field teams posted a pair of strong finishes at the Western PA Championships held at Carnegie Mellon University Saturday afternoon. The Juniata women's squad broke a pair of school records and recorded three first-place finishes as they placed sixth out of a 14-team field. On the men's side the Eagles finished the meet in 13th place out of 15 squads. For the women Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) posted a time of 40:52.60 to win the 10,000 meters and break the school record. Hayes broke her own record of 41:41.41 in the event. Also claiming a victory was Kira Troutman (Line Mountain/Valley View) who threw the javelin 42.32 meters on her final throw to win. Another school record fell in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) broke her own school record in a time of 12:05.00 to claim a win in that event. Glunt had set the school record in the steeplechase the previous week. Glunt also finished sixth in the 5,000 to round out her day. Meredith Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) had a solid day in the sprints for Juniata as she finished sixth in the 100 meter dash and seventh in the 200 meter. Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) added a ninth-place finish in the 200. Elena Amato (Notre Dame Prep./Baltimore Md.) rounded out the top-10 finishes for Juniata as she placed seventh in the 800 meter. The Eagles also got a sixth-place finis in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 4:16.35. On the men's side Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) earned the top finish as he placed third in the steeplechase. Fritzius covered the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:07.44. Randy Anderson (Dubois/Dubois) had a solid day in the jumps for the Eagles. Anderson finished eighth in the long jump and 10th in the triple jump. Jeremy Weber (Garden Spot/Mohnton) joined Anderson with a top-10 finish as he placed fourth in the long jump. Adam Loser (Central York/York) added a ninth-place finish in the high jump to complete Juniata?s success in the field events. Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) capped Juniata?s top-10 finishes as he placed 10th in the 5,000.
