HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College?s Tri- Beta Honor Society will host the college?s seventh annual campuswide research symposium from Thursday, March 25 through Saturday, March 27. A total of 56 research presentations will be made from students across a variety of academic disciplines. The research projects all were conducted through cooperative research with faculty members during the course of the 2003-2004 academic year.

The research symposium is free of charge and open to the public.

At 7 p.m., Thursday, the symposium will feature a keynote speech by James Marden, professor of biology at Penn State University. His area of expertise focuses on the physiology, ecology and behavior of flying insects.

The research presentations and poster presentations include projects from the liberal arts such as art history, sociology, communications, politics, and history. In addition to chemistry, biology and physics, there will be presentations on subjects in environmental science and psychology.

On Thursday, March 25, oral presentations in physics and chemistry will start at 1 p.m. in the Sill Board Room in the von Liebig Center for Science on the Juniata College campus. There will be poster presentations starting at 2:30 p.m. in the atrium of the von Liebig Center.

Friday, March 26, oral presentations in politics will continue in Room 1098 von Liebig at 2 p.m., followed by presentations in history at 3:30 p.m., politics at 4 p.m. and environmental science at 4:45 p.m. In the von Liebig atrium, there will be poster presentations in sociology and psychology at 10 a.m., followed by poster presentations in environmental science at 11:30 a.m. and biology at 1 p.m.

On Saturday, March 27, starting at 1 p.m. in the Sill Board Room, students will give oral presentations in communication, followed by presentations in biology at 2:30 p.m. In the von Liebig atrium, there will be poster presentations in biology at 1 p.m.

Tri-Beta, the honorary society for biology, has organized the exhibit to highlight the quality of student research at Juniata. There are about 60 members in the Juniata College chapter of Tri-Beta. The William J. von Liebig Foundation sponsors the event.
