Juniata posted huge offensive numbers but could not claim a win as they dropped a 49-31 decision on the road against Albright. Running back Craig Moshier (Coudersport/Coudersport) set a new school record for rushing yards in a game with 285 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Those 285 yards broke the previous record of 222, which Moshier established himself in the 2002 season finale. The senior back has now rushed for more than 100 yards in eight of Juniata?s last 10 games going back to last season. Moshier has averaged 154 rushing yards per game during that 10-game span. Along with Moshier, quarterback Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) rushed for 130 yards as Juniata set a new team single-game rushing record with 454 total yards on the ground. The previous record was 437 yards which was set against Susquehanna in 1955. Each of Juniata?s four touchdowns came on the ground. The Eagles totaled 627 yards of offense, topping the 623 they gained in a victory the week before. It was the highest total for the Eagles since the 1999 season. Troutman was 13-for-29 passing for 173 yards. Anthony Lipple (Penn Cambria/Ashville) caught a team-high nine balls for 61 yards, and added a rushing touchdown. Tom Kimmel (South Range/Canfield, Ohio) made four catches and led the unit with 86 yards receiving. John Boyer (Indian Valley/Belleville) added 40 yards rushing. Kurht Engle (Spring-Ford/Royersford) gave Juniata excellent field position throughout the contest as he had 140 kick-off return yards on five returns.

Defensively Matt Garner (Bellwood-Antis/Tyrone) made 13 tackles, 12 of them solo stops. Peter Thomas (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) was also in double figures with 10 tackles. Paul Kozick (Trinity/Dillsburg) had four tackles for loss on the game, while Frederick Wall (Big Spring/Newville) had a pair of sacks for Juniata. Jesse Leonard (Shade/Johnstown) punted four times for an average of 39.8 yards per punt.

WOMEN?S SOCCER (6-8-1, 1-2-1 Commonwealth): Oct. 22 vs. Messiah*; Oct. 25 vs. LaRoche.
*Commonwealth Conference match.

The Eagles played a pair of tight contests topping Penn State-Altoona 1-0 and earning a 1-1 tie against conference opponent Albright. Against Albright, a goal from Erinn Harter (Penn Trafford/Trafford) knotted the game at one in the first half. Desiree Wagner (Harbor Creek/Erie) assisted on Harter?s goal. Goalie Lindsey Treon (Hollidaysburg/Duncansville) made seven saves in the match, with the only goal she allowed coming off a penalty kick. Despite taking 14 shots, Juniata could not find the back of the net again, as the match finished tied at one. Earlier in the week Juniata topped Penn State-Altoona 1-0, with the lone score coming on an own goal. Treon was again strong in net for the Eagles, making six saves in earning her second shutout of the season. Pressure from Amy Tyler (Altoona/Altoona) resulted in the lone goal in the match.

MEN?S SOCCER (2-9-1, 1-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 21 at Pitt-Greensburg.

The Eagles suffered a pair of conference set-backs this week as they fell 2-1 in overtime at Albright and dropped a 6-0 decision to Messiah at home. Against Albright, Takashi Suzuki (Sapporo Moiwa/Sapporo, Japan) scored his first career goal three minutes into the second half to the match at one. Tim Penrod (Moravia/Moravia, N.Y.) would made six saves during the match. Landon Lose (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and Kodi Hockenberry (Red Land/Lewisberry) led the team with three shots apiece. Against Messiah, Penrod played the second half in net for the Eagles, making four saves and allowing a pair of goals. Mark Guthridge (DuBois/DuBois) allowed four goals while making three stops in net for Juniata in the first half. Mike Alianiello (Altoona/Altoona) led Juniata with three shots.

WOMEN?S VOLLEYBALL (27-0, 5-0 Commonwealth): Oct. 22 at Widener*; Oct. 24-25 vs. ?Wid? Guisler Invitational. *Commonwealth Conference match.

Juniata played just one match on the week, topping conference opponent Elizabethtown by a 3-0 score. Freshman Rachael Schatz (West Perry/Elliotsburg) led the Juniata attack with 12 kills. Amy Ressler (Hempfield/East Petersburg) was also in double figures with 11 finishes, while Jenn Habel (Glen Oak/Canton, Ohio) and Stephanie Kines (Towson/Towson, Md.) each put-away nine attack chances. Juniata beat the Blue Jays by game scores of 30-15, 30-25 and 30-23. Defensively, libero Johanna Holtan (Fargo North/Fargo, N.D.) led the team with 13 digs. Melissa Berdine (Pine-Richland/Gibsonia) brought up eight balls and handled most of the setting duties with 28 assists. Freshman Allie Phillips (Carlisle/Gardners) also saw time at the setter spot, passing out 18 assists while chipping in eight digs. Another freshman, Rejane Frederick (Huntingdon/Huntingdon), finished with eight kills and a team-high four aces.

MEN?S AND WOMEN?S CROSS COUNTRY: Oct. 25 vs. Juniata College Invitational

The Juniata College men?s and women?s cross country teams competed at the DeSales University Invitational on Saturday. Running in the junior varsity race the Eagle women finished first out of nine teams, while the men?s unit finished second out of 12 teams. The meet featured many of the teams Juniata will see at the MAC Championships which will be held on November 1st. Based purely on the finishing times, if this had been an MAC meet, the Juniata women would have placed fifth, and the men?s squad would have finished eighth. Juniata earned the top three individual finishes on the women?s side. Katey Glunt (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) finished first in the race in a time of 20:52.14. Right behind her was Nancy Hayes (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) and Stefanie Rynkewitz (Lewistown/Lewistown) who placed second and third respectively. Hayes was just fractions of a second behind Glunt while Rynkewitz was 13 seconds behind the front-running duo. Sarah Bay (Central Dauphin/Harrisburg) was fourth for Juniata with a 16th-place finish in a time of 22:00.36. Rounding out the top-five was Lauren Gates (Bishop Guilfoyle/Altoona) who came home in 24th position. On the men?s side Justin Fritzius (Central York/York) was the top finisher on the men?s side for Juniata, as he finished in second place?35 seconds behind the top finisher. Just half a second behind Fritzius was Chris Sheaffer (Central York/York) who finished third. Will Cantara (West Branch/Winburne) finished in tenth place for Juniata with a time of 29:21.72. Mike Vella (Hollidaysburg/Hollidaysburg) was fourth for Juniata with his 31st-place finish, and Jeremy Lampert (Portsmouth/Portsmouth, N.H.) rounded out the top five as he finished 37th. Juniata finished with 60 points as a team, 23 behind first-place Bloomsburg and 19 points in front of Dickinson.

FIELD HOCKEY (11-5, 3-2 Commonwealth): Oct. 21 vs. Lebanon Valley*; Oct. 24 vs. Seton Hill.

Juniata played one match on the week, earning a critical Commonwealth Conference victory over Moravian. Juniata got all the offense they needed when Grace McCluskey (West Perry/Elliotsburg) scored her seventh goal of the season 14 minutes into the match. The tally was assisted by Jean Silvey (Red Lion/Airville) giving her four assists on the season. Silvey would add a goal of her own 13 minutes later to give Juniata a 2-0 cushion. Janine Hartman (Whitehall/Whitehall) recorded her first assist of the season on the score. Silvey now leads Juniata with nine goals and 22 points. Juniata controlled the play in the match, as they held the visiting Greyhounds to just one shot. Andrea Way (Fair Haven Union/Fair Haven, Vt.) played the final nine minutes of the match in goal, and had one save for Juniata. Melonie Sappe? (Dallas/Shavertown) played 61 minutes in the cage for Juniata, and did not face a shot.
