NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Juniata College women's volleyball bounced back into the win column on Saturday, downing the University of Mary Washington and Salisbury University at the Christopher Newport University Invitational.

11th-ranked Juniata (16-5) downed Mary Washington, 3-0, by set scores of 25-22, 25-12, 25-17. The Eagles had a slightly tougher time against Salisbury, eventually disposing of the Sea Gulls, 3-1, with set scores of 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Sophomore middle Courtney Lydick (McKean, Pa./General McLane) posted a team-high seven kills for the Eagles in their win over Mary Washington, while sophomore pin hitter Amy Miller (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and senior middle Amanda Schmidt (Boswell, Pa./North Star) logged six terminations each. Lydick also had four blocks to aid the Juniata cause, while Schmidt had her hand in a pair of blocks.

Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers) set the Juniata offense, recording 30 assists as her teammates hit .231 for the match. Defensively, senior libero Libby Morrison turned up 18 digs while Miller added 12 more. Three different Juniata players served up two aces for the Eagles.

Mary Washington's Kaitlynn Wickersham led the UMW offense with six kills, with Ellen Smethurst chipping in with five. UMW hit just .018 for the match, and handed away 33 points to Juniata on attack errors and service errors.

Juniata needed a little more offense to get past Salisbury, and junior outside hitter Kelsey Fuller (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) obliged with 14 kills. Sophomore pin hitter Rachelle Wiegand (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) added 13 kills while hitting .379 for the match, and served a pair of aces against the Sea Gulls.

Freshman opposite Amelia Kepler (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) had seven kills and was one of three Juniata players to post a pair of block assists.

Greenberg had the Juniata offense hitting at a .165 clip and she finished with 46 assists.

Juniata had 81 digs to Salisbury's 72, with four players recording double-digit dig totals. Morrison led the way with 25, while Greenberg sprawled for 15. Brittani Young (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield Area) had 13, and Wiegand completed a double-double with 10 digs.

Salisbury finished with three players in double figures for kills, led by Jenna Shay with 11 kills on a .308 hitting percentage.

Juniata has a pair of home matches this week, starting with Division II California University of Pennsylvania visiting Huntingdon on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Penn State Altoona comes to the Kennedy Sports + Recreation Center on Thursday, Oct. 13.
