HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- 16th-ranked Juniata College opened its season with a 3-1 win against Bridgewater College Saturday afternoon at Winton Hill Field in Huntingdon, Pa.

Juniata (1-0) controlled much of the first half and took the lead in the 16th minute with a senior forward Catilyn Bowman (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) goal, assisted by sophomore midfielder Emma Dahmus (Hummelstown, Pa/Lower Dauphin).

Just over five minutes into the second period, the Eagles struck again when they capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity. Senior forward Kim Amrod (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) took the corner and passed to senior midfielder Meghan McGlone (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh). Who then assisted freshman Kortney Showers (Aspers, Pa./Biglerville) to her first collegiate goal. The Eagles put up one more security goal when Bowman struck again in the 55th minute assisted by McGlone.

Bridgewater (0-1) only managed two shots on the Eagles throughout play, one finding the back of the cage in the 65th minute. Jennifer Tompkins centered the ball and found Betsy Joslyn in front of the goal face for Bridgewater's solo goal.

Junior goalie Janelle Howard played all 70 minutes in the cage for the Eagles but was not tested and finished the contest without recording a save.

Juniata outshot Bridgewater 13-2, with Bowman recording four and Showers tallying three. The Eagles also had 13 penalty corner opportunities to Bridgewater's two.

Juniata is scheduled to face Stevens Institute of Technology at State College High School South Field on Sunday, Sept. 4, with the face-off scheduled for 1:00 pm.
