HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Juniata College first baseman Johnny Martinez (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was named to the ECAC Division III Baseball South Region All-Star squad as a First Team selection, when the squad was unveiled Thursday.

Martinez earned the Landmark Conference's 2011 Player of the Year award and was a First Team All-Landmark selection. The graduated senior finished the 2011 season with a fourth-in-the-Landmark .382 batting average with 42 hits in 110 at bats. His 31 runs scored were good enough for eighth among Landmark leaders, and he led the conference with a .533 on base percentage.

He tallied eight doubles, a triple, and five home runs in 2011, posting a .609 slugging percentage with his 67 total bases.

The four-year starter posted a .370 career batting average on College Hill, and finished his career ranked among Juniata's all-time leaders in doubles (second with 36), RBI (fifth with 119), and hits (second with 174). His 15 career home runs is tied for sixth among Juniata career leaders.

The ECAC All-Star honor is but the most recent for Martinez. In addition to his Landmark Conference accolades, Martinez was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region team at the end of May.

Martinez was one of only two Landmark Conference baseball players on the ECAC Division III South Region All-Star team; he was joined by junior pitcher Brendan Close from Moravian College.
