STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- With the Landmark Conference outdoor track and field championships behind them, a number of Juniata College track and field athletes began competition at "last chance" meets starting with Penn State's Jim Thorpe Open, Saturday afternoon at the Nittany Lion Track.

- Angela Shaffer (Prospect, Pa./Slippery Rock) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.61m (5-3 ¼).

- Stephanie Varner (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.10m (10-2).

- Aaron McCoy (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) placed third in the 100m dash with a time of 11.28 seconds.

- Nicholas Bauer (Glen Ridge, N.J./Glen Ridge) was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.92m (22-8 ½).

- Justin Clapper (Buffalo Mills, Pa./Bedford) placed seventh in the discus, with a throw of 39.34m (129-1).

- Jack Iosue (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) was eighth in the javelin with a throw of 55.53m (182-2), while Dustin Drake (Mount Union, Pa./Mount Union) was ninth with a throw of 54.93m (180-2).

Juniata track and field's next "last chance" competition will be the Allegheny Open, on May 13 in Meadville, Pa.
