Women's swimming defeats Penn-State Altoona

FREDERICK, Md. -- The Juniata College women's swimming team beat Penn State-Altoona 48-42, yet Hood College edged the Eagles 49-45 on Saturday in a non-conference tri-meet in Frederick, Md.
Juniata (5-12) won six events overall and posted two second-place finishes.
Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) paced the Eagles in their first event, finishing second in the 1000 Freestyle in 12:10.80, six seconds ahead of the third place swimmer. Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) followed with 2:07.06 in the 200 Freestyle to put herself in first.
Beatty also placed in two other events with a third place finish in the 400 IM, with a 5:38.13 time. In the 500 freestyle Beatty also placed third with a time of 5:56.62.
In the seventh event of the day Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) placed first in the 50 Freestyle in 27.18, and Haldis Andersen (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) finished fifth at 29.91.
Viola later posted 2:43.63 in the 200 Breaststroke for first while Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) came in at 2:21.13 to win the 200 Backstroke.
Miles topped the charts in the 100 Freestyle with a 57.94, following behind her was Anderson with a sixth place finish at 108.10. Snyder grabbed a second place finish in the 200 Butterfly with a 2:33.08.
Juniata's 200 Freestyle Relay was comprised of Miles, Anderson, Snyder and Viola. The swimmers finished won the race at 1:51.00, a full nine seconds ahead of second place Penn State Altoona.
Juniata returns to the competition Friday, February 11, at the first day of Landmark Conference Championships.
