FOOTBALL (4-0, 3-0 MAC); Oct. 12 at Moravian*
*MAC game.
A powerful rushing attack and second-half surge by the King's defense spelled doom for the Eagles as King?s topped Juniata 26-20. It was Juniata's first loss of the season after starting out 4-0. The Eagles got out to a fast start as a rushing TD from Craig Moshier (Coudersport/Coudersport) and a 16-yard touchdown pass from Greg Troutman (Meyersdale/Meyersdale) to Andrew Raup (Danville/Danville) staked Juniata to a 14-7 lead. A bizarre sequence following a blocked Juniata field-goal attempt ended with Juniata's Jason Stouffer (Newport/Newport) recovering a fumble in the end zone to put Juniata on top 20-7 heading into the half. In the second half King's rushing attack and defense took over. King's Richard Jackson rushed for 144 yards in the second half, and King's held the Eagle offense to just 61 total yards in the second half as the Monarchs came back to win. The Eagles' best opportunity came when Paul Evans (Huntingdon/Huntingdon) returned a punt 60 yards to the King's 26-yard line with 3:15 remaining in the game, but Juniata could not convert a fourth and 12 and turned the ball over on downs. Moshier finished with 129 yards of total offense and one touchdown. Troutman finished with a season-low 14 completions and 159 yards. Stephen Parsons (Beaver Falls/Beaver Falls) led the defense with 13 tackles along with an interception. Peter Thomas (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) and Jason Stouffer (Newport/Newport) each had 11 tackles, with Stouffer adding two sacks and scoring the touchdown after the field-goal block. Matt Garner Bellwood-Antis/Tyrone) added eight tackles and 1.5 sacks.
